24 hours of Food in Charleston

Last weekend, I went on a little road trip through South Carolina and Georgia and whilst doing my research I realised how tough it is to pick restaurants when you’re only passing through, as there’s so much choice yet so little time. After a lot of deliberation, here are the places I selected, and I really wasn’t disappointed!

If you ask anyone for a restaurant recommendation in Charleston, Husk will definitely feature on the list. The restaurant’s James Beard Award-winning chef, Sean Brock is all about southern food and local ingredients. Set in a 19th century mansion, this place is also pretty charming. The menu changes daily but some dishes remain, like the cheeseburger, which is a must.

This seafood spot is pretty small and doesn’t take reservations, so make sure to get there early. Just to give you an idea of how popular this place is, I got there at 6.30pm and there still was a 40-minute wait. I really didn’t mind though as I got to order some rosé and sit on their bench outside. Their menu is small but incredibly tasty. I highly recommend the crispy shrimp taco ($6), the 10-hour pork carnita ($5), the lobster roll and the oysters!

Drinks: The Gin Joint

This place is nice and cosy and what I loved most was that if you don’t know what you want, you can pick 2 words on a list on the menu (spicy, strong, unusual…) and the bartender will mix you a drink accordingly for $12. I picked refreshing and tart, and my drink was honestly incredible!

Breakfast or a snack: Normandy Farm Artisan Bakery

Before heading to our next stop (Savannah), we stopped by Normandy Farm Artisan Bakery for some toasted pain au chocolat (which was delicious) and a perfect latte. We also randomly realised that this place becomes a secret, quirky wine bar at night which made us love it even more!
