Our favourite Leading Hotels of the World breakfasts

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the most exciting one – especially when it involves a luxury hotel.

Whether it’s served buffet style, à la carte or in bed – hotels seem to have mastered the skill; and we’re sure that most of you will agree that waking up on holiday before breakfast ends is crucial (especially when it’s complimentary).

The Leading Hotels of the World group includes some of the best places to stay around the globe which each offer decadent breakfasts.

14 hotels recently joined the collection, some of which aren’t even yet open and we got to sample dishes from their gourmet breakfasts here in London. Here were our favourite ones:

Baglioni Resort in Maagau, Maldives

For the first time ever, this Italian brand is opening a hotel located outside of Europe and it has chosen the Maldives (we don’t blame them). To reach the hotel, clients have to jump onto a seaplane, but it’s all worth it. Yes there’s the turquoise ocean, the warm sandy beaches and the stunning sunshine – but most of all, there’s their delicious mimosa and their apricot crostata served with caramel and thyme. Now that’s worth travelling across the globe for.

Hotel Kämp in Helsinki, Finland

This hotel, located right in the middle of Helsinki, will be celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2017 (and they are organising a massive party for the occasion). The historical building harmoniously blends antique style with contemporary Finish art and design. Now let’s talk about the simple yet delicious breakfast dish which stole our hearts: whipped berry porridge. Fruity, hearty and full of flavour, just what we need during a Scandinavian winter.

San Clemente Palace Kempinski in Venice, Italy

Venice’s must-see (but most touristy) places can become very hectic and exhausting. If you happen to be staying at the Kempinski, you’ll be allowed a real break. Located on a private island, which used to be a monastery, the hotel is the perfect spot to relax whilst enjoying the view on Santa Maria della Salute. Don’t forget to enjoy their breakfast before you head back to Venice by water taxi. Their breakfast restaurant, Insieme Restaurant, serves a delicious blend of the best of Mediterranean dishes, with the freshest Italian-grown produce.

The Fontenay in Hamburg, Germany

The most modern building of Hamburg, located right by the lake, has paid homage to this Hanseatic city by serving this delicious breakfast: the Hanseatenschnitte, which translates to the Hanseatic slice. So what does this entail? A slice of schwarzbrot (German black rye bread) served with the German version of steak tartare and topped with caviar, as sturgeons used to swim in the Alster lake.

The Fontenay will only open next Summer and we’re looking forward to it.

The Lanesborough in London

A classic. Located right next to Buckingham Palace – you sure do feel like royalty when you walk into this timeless English institution. Their breakfast was definitely up to the Queen’s standards: fresh truffled scrambled eggs topped with gold leaves and caviar. Long live the Queen.
