HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE PURPLE DIET?
Summer has just begun, which means many of us are trying to slim down and test various diets.
We’ve consequently decided to investigate the world’s oddest diets these coming months.
To start off our quest, we’ve selected the purple diet –which Mariah Carey followed in 2014 to lose her baby weight. This strange régime consists of only eating purple foods, such as berries, plums, purple carrots, lilac cauliflower, etc.
Purple foods tend to contain anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that could prevent cancer and heart disease. Anthocyanin is also known for its anti-ageing benefits.
While weight loss is pretty much guaranteed, the diet isn’t necessarily healthy, as according to Elouise Bauskis, Nutritional Therapist and Naturopath at Nutricentre.com, “it is recommended to consume a rainbow of colour daily, through a variety of vegetables and fruits. Focusing only on purple foods is not recommended as this is an unbalanced diet generally”.
We also suspect that this could lead to purple poop – but we’re still awaiting confirmation.
