Our 2018 London Restaurants to try list

For the first time ever, we’ve decided not to make any New Year’s resolutions and to just accept that there’s no point as we’ve never been able to keep one. Instead, we’ve tried to be slightly more realistic and have decided to just go with the classic to do list of things we love the most: restaurants. We’re not lazy, we just want to be happy.


Here are the London restaurants we want to try in 2018:


Duddell’s £££ – 9A ST. Thomas St, SE1 9RY

Their successful Hong Kong restaurant has branched out to London Bridge. We’ve been obsessed with their Instagram lately: gorgeous photogenic dim sums on beautiful baby pink tables, plus some mouth-watering cocktails. What could go wrong.


Serge et Le Phoque £££ – 20 – 21 Newman St, W1T 1PG

The French restaurant of the Mandrake hotel has been quite the popular kid in town recently.When someone with an Interior Design background collaborates with some specialised in French bistronomie, you know something good is going to come out of it.The 1970s look gives it a sort of Mad Men look (that’s the impression we get from the pictures at least) and its Michelin star is naturally also drawing us in.


Ikoyi ££ – 1 St James’s Market, SW1Y 4AH

A high-end Nigerian restaurant serving very creative cocktails? Now that sounds like something different. On the menu, you’ll find dishes like tiger prawns with corn grits or jollof rice with bone marrow. Honestly we can’t believe we still haven’t been.


Xu ££ – 30 Rupert St, W1D 6DL

Another place we’re embarrassed to admit we haven’t been to yet. The lovely team behind our beloved Bao opened their first smart and vintage-looking restaurant. Same drill as Bao, they serve Taiwanese food but this time you can book a table!


The Drunken Butler ££ – 20 Rosebery Ave, EC1R 4SX

Firstly, we dig the name. Secondly, it serves a mix of French, Persian and Korean food. The very well-travelled chef, Yuma Hashemi, opened this restaurant in Clerkenwell to experiment with food through smoking, pickling and fermenting – hence its name.


Brilliant Corners ££ – 470 Kingsland Rd, E8 4AE

This east London Kissaten definitely has our attention. Traditionally, a Kissaten is an old Japanese tea room, but recent and trendier Kissatens in Tokyo have evolved into Whisky bars, serving small plates and playing Jazz music. Brilliant Corners is exactly that: a sushi bar with jazz played on vinyl or a DJ set.

Evelyn’s table at the The Blue Post – 28 Rupert St, W1D 6DJ



The team behind Palomar and Barbary took over the Chinatown pub, The Blue Post. After refurbishing it and adding The Mulwray – a cocktail bar –on the top floor, we can’t wait to try out their restaurant in the basement. 


Petersham Nurseries – Covent Graden

If you’ve been to the restaurant in Richmond, you can understand how excited we are for the one opening in Central London. We can already imagine a Secret Garden in the middle of Covent Garden’s hustle and bustle.


Brigadiers – 1-5 Bloomberg Arcade, EC4N 8AR


We fell in love with Indian, Michelin-stared restaurant Gymkhana and if we had the money we would definitely go there more than we do now. Good news is that its owners are opening an Indian barbecue in a « space inspired by a traditional Indian army mess ». We trust them – it’s probably going to be as gorgeous as their first restaurant.


Scully – 4 St. James’s Market, SW1Y 4QU



Ramael Scully, Nopi’s Head Chef, is opening his first solo restaurant. This Australian chef will be focusing on seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients from the British Isles but will also be inspired by his own family heritage, which stretches from Ireland to Bali. Can’t wait.
