Retox plan in 5 steps
Dark, cold and dreary: January is already sad enough as it is so why make it even drier? We say, let’s keep going with the festivities!
Retox vs Detox at Tom’s Kitchen
If you do have a friend who is detoxing this January, Tom’s Kitchen is offering a bit of both. Chef Tom Aikens worked closely with healthy food and drink company, Rude Health and social media influencer and Instagram account, KS_Ate_Here to create two dishes to please everyone.
On one side Rude Health has created a delicious Smoked salmon tartare, served with a wasabi crème fraiche and cured egg yolk. Perfect for a light lunch (£10) or dinner (£18), especially if you’re in need of the extra omega-3 fatty acids.
KS on the other hand came up with the exact opposite: the ultimate Cardiac stack burger, featuring chicken schnitzel, smothered in homemade pickles, crispy sage chicken skin, streaky bacon and smoked Applewood cheese. She added a duck fat potato rosti over the schnitzel, both tucked between a duck fat brioche bun and she serves the whole thing with a side of triple cooked chips (£20). droooooooooool
That’s a great way to say f**k you to detox
Dry Gin-uary at Rivington Grill
The Rivington Grill in Shoreditch is known to have an impressive collection of Gin – so why not take advantage of it? From Monday to Friday from 5 – 7pm they’re serving a dry cocktail for £7.50.
Week 1 is celebrated with a dry martini with homemade dry vermouth, week 2 with a dry Martinez with dry orange acid, week 3 has the classic dry G&T with homemade dry tonic and week 4 ends with a dry Manhattan with dry ice.
Game is strong.
The Anti Resolution menu at Duck and Waffle
Abstain this month from your resolutions and enjoy this list of limited ‘Anti Resolution’ cocktails. Each features an ingredient no one wants to give up (and we’re not referring to the booze). The white chocolate gin fizz or the Foie Gras Manhattan or the truffled fig Sazerac (all £14) will make you forget about your resolutions.
The great Sausage Roll-Off at The Red Lion
Not quite ready to give up meat? We hear you. London has a great tradition of each year selecting the best sausage roll. Last year was a pheasant & black pudding sausage roll with a turnip dip. Sounds delicious doesn’t it? You can probably taste it at this year’s competition- on January 25th at 7pm, where 20 chefs will compete to astound your tastebuds. All you’ll need is to show up. #BestSausageParty
The failed New Year’s Resolution Cocktails at Browns Hotel
If you’ve given up on giving up, let the Donovan Bar help break your New Year’s Resolutions early with their astonishing drinks. Their “I Must Get Fit” requires you to shake your own drink for a whole minute (think of your triceps!), while “I Must Not Spend Money” is literally £150 (just one is enough though) and finally the “I Must Not Eat Chocolate » tastes more like chocolate and cream. Own your failure.
Happy New Year everyone
